The German-Canadian Business and Professional Assocation was established in 1967. Our members, both men and women, are German-Canadian business and academic professionals, consultants and entrepreneurs. The Association is officially bilingual and either German or English is the accepted mode of communication, the ability to understand spoken German is an asset for new members.
The purpose of the Association is the cultivation of friendship and cooperation among us with emphasis on:
- Promoting business and professional interests of our members.
- Promoting positive relations between our members and the public.
- Helping new German-speaking immigrants to become successfully settled Canadian Citizens.
- Encouraging and promoting networking between German and Canadian business people.
- Foster and preserve the German Language and Culture.

- The Cooperative Council of German-Canadian Clubs of Waterloo Region.
Monthly Meetings
To our monthly membership meetings we invite well-known representatives of the government, business, professional community, and other areas of mutual interest to give lectures on various topics. Our own members speak on their areas of expertise on a regular basis. These lectures give the members valuable insights into the functioning of Canadian society.
Language Competition
In 1974 the German Language Contest was initiated. Each year in May, students of the German language in the Region of Waterloo are invited to participate in this competition. Also, high school students who scored highest in their class in first and second-year German receive awards. Book prizes, trophies, certificates, and valuable cash awards are presented to the winning students at the Wilfrid L. Bitzer Event.
Social Events
Social events with our member’s spouses, such as our Annual Galaball, excursions, and visits to our member’s companies help to strengthen cooperation and friendship between the members.
