Ernst
Friedel Introduces the First German Pioneers Awards
Mr.
Ambassador Ladies and Gentlemen, yesterday we celebrated Thanksgiving.
This
special day, when we are thankful to God for the harvest, for health and
family, played a very important roll in the lives of the pioneers when they
first came to this country and to this area. We also have much to be
thankful for, including the work these pioneers did.
Some of
these pioneers were not only very successful, but they also brought great
sacrifices. Without these sacrifices we would not be able to have the
prosperity we are enjoying today.
Today we
will honour three of these pioneer families by awarding them the German
Pioneers Award. This Award is presented for the first time this year. It
was created to recognize the contributions and sacrifices these Families have
made in the development of this area and for their contribution to the
preservation of German Heritage.
Can I ask
Paul Weigel to come to the microphone to introduce the first recipient.
